Turn, Turn, Turn – The Byrds
This week I made a mental note to bring on passionate, creative people to help with design and focus the magazine and my vision for it. Part of this was adding new contributing writers; part of it was to add new directors and designers.
As I say every week, Iím consistently impressed by the talent growing in our community. Now, Iíve stepped outside of my box and invited those people to grow Rope into the form youíre reading today.
Itís important to remember that artistic vision is just like raising a child. While I harbour my own creative ideas, itís a sign of growth to allow otherís help fulfill it. It takes a village to grow a child; it takes a community of creative people to grow a concept like Velvet Rope.
To that end, Iím sending a heartfelt thanks to Tessa Jennison; my new Creative Director and to Stefan Myles; my new Layout and Design Manager. Between these two pouring in countless hours of volunteer work, Velvet Rope is growing up fast and wouldnít be possible without their input.
This week in the magazine, youíll read about one of our home-town heroes, Shannon Lyon, written by the exquisitely well-versed Tim Knight. Tyler Dombroski is our resident funny-man and he shines a spotlight on The Great Canadian Laugh-Off, Round 4. Andy Clarkís articles are now emblazoned with Iím With the Band and this week, Todd Donald has your ticket to Wanderlust. Also in the mix, weíve got a review on Stars as well as a few heart-felt words from Catherine MacLellan. And yes, to those wondering, there is ëCreative Adaptationí, with Part 3 of Essential Elements of Recording by The Short Films.
All in all, I think youíll find this weekís changes a little more in tune with our mission: to provide you with a great looking magazine and an inside look to our citiesí entertainment. Once youíve gone through it, I guarantee youíll want to look again.
One good turn deserves another, right?
